Programmes Ituriens pour la Réhabilitation et le Développement durable

Welcome

Welcome to our website. On this page you will find a small introduction to our organisation and on the left you'll find links to more information about us and about our projects. At the moment we are in the process of building a new and much bigger website which will be online here in the first week of september 2007.

Our organisation , PIRD , is a non government organisation focusing on recovery from the civil war and sustainable development in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because science and experience have proven that survival and durable societies require people to have environmentally durable practices as well , PIRD developes and implements solutions that will result in recovery and development that are as much durable as possible from any point of view.

We have chosen for a broad focus because recovery of communities is complex and multidimensional. Primary focus-areas are: durable self-sustainability , durable food production , healthcare development , education , promoting peace and easing of tensions and more .....

PIRD was founded on the 11th of June 2005 and registered on the 18th of October 2006 by the act "Acte Notarié 5316/2006 de l'Office Notariat de Bunia". It is located in Bunia in the Democratic Republic of Congo and established in accordance with the law n°004/2001 of July 27th of 2001 as a nonprofit organization.

Our operational area , Ituri , is one of the four districts of the Eastern Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It borders Uganda in the east, Sudan in the  north , the District of Haut-Uélé in the north-west, Tshopo in the west and the North-Kivu province in the south. In 2006 , with the new constitution , Ituri has gained the official status of a province and is thus one of the twenty-five provinces of D.R. Congo, not counting the town of Kinshasa, the capital.
